For example, a 40 × 60 metre plot has a 200 metre perimeter. For a land or house boundary the calculator suggests Thai Chicken Fence Wire Mesh 4×6 inch model SS 16 at 150 cm, which needs 7 rolls of 30 m at 1,590 THB each — 11,130 THB of mesh, about 56 THB per metre. Adding Y-Posts brings in 68 posts at 270 THB each, for roughly 29,490 THB in total.

What is wire mesh fencing, and which type fits your job?

Wire mesh fencing is steel wire woven into a sheet and supplied in rolls, tensioned against posts set at intervals. Compared with rigid panel fencing it is more flexible, easier to transport and far cheaper per metre over large areas. We make two main families.

Hinge joint — livestock and sloping ground

The vertical and horizontal wires are knotted rather than welded, so each joint flexes when an animal pushes or the ground settles, then returns to shape without tearing. Spacing is tight at the bottom and opens towards the top, stopping small animals without wasting wire up high. Built from 2.50 mm high-tensile wire throughout.

Chain link — boundaries, factories and sports grounds

Also called diamond mesh, woven into a continuous diamond pattern with an even surface that can be cut and adapted freely on site. It is the usual choice for house, sports-ground and warehouse fencing as well as DIY work. Available in 1.5, 2.0 and 2.5 inch apertures, in 10 metre rolls from 100 to 200 cm tall.

Wire mesh compared with other kinds of fence

Each kind of fence is good at something different — none of them wins at everything. This table lays out what you gain and give up with each, so you can judge which one fits your job.

The per-metre figure for wire mesh comes from the price tables above. For the other kinds we give a relative level only, because their price depends on the maker and the specification.

Choosing the right aperture for the job

Aperture is what decides whether a fence actually holds an animal. The rule is simple: the gap must be smaller than the head of the animal you are containing. Tighter apertures use more wire, so the price per roll rises accordingly.

4×6 inch — homes, gardens, land

The widest aperture uses less wire per metre, making it the best value for land boundaries, orchards and large livestock. From 1,245 THB per 30 m roll.

4×4 inch — cattle, goats, sheep, buffalo

A square aperture balancing strength and cost. It resists pushing and stops heads getting stuck — the size most livestock farms choose.

2×4 inch — small animals, poultry, dogs

The tightest aperture, holding chicks, rabbits, ducklings and small dogs while keeping predators out. It uses more wire, so costs more per roll.

Chain link 1.5 / 2.0 / 2.5 inch — general use

The 1.5 inch grade uses 2.00 mm wire; the 2.0 and 2.5 inch grades use 2.50 mm. Smaller diamonds are denser and harder to climb, larger ones are more open and cheaper. From 870 THB per 10 m roll.

Technical specifications

How long a wire mesh fence lasts comes down to three things: the gauge of the wire, the tensile strength of the steel, and the corrosion coating. The three points below set out which gauge each grade uses, what it suits, and how the surface is treated.

2.50 mm wire — hinge joint and wide chain link

The heaviest gauge, used across the hinge joint range and for 2.0 and 2.5 inch chain link — for farm stock and large animals.

2.00 mm wire — square mesh and 1.5 inch chain link

Used across the 4×6, 4×4 and 2×4 inch square mesh from 100 to 250 cm — the most widely applicable grade.

Corrosion protection

Y-Posts are available EDP-coated or hot dip galvanised for outdoor runs that need a long service life.

Why choose K Garden wire mesh

Genuine high-tensile wire, not soft cold-rolled

High-tensile wire carries more load at the same gauge, so it tensions tighter, allows wider post spacing and does not sag under repeated pushing. Every grade holds its gauge through the whole roll, not just at the selvedge.

Certified MIT, ISO 9001 and Green Industry

MIT (Made in Thailand) certifies local manufacture, ISO 9001 covers the quality management system, and Green Industry reflects a commitment to reducing environmental impact at every production stage.

Our own factory, factory prices, no middleman

Our plant is in Bang Yai, Nonthaburi. Ordering direct from the manufacturer keeps both quality and cost under one roof — and every price is published openly on this page, with no need to enquire first.

What wire mesh fencing is used for

These six applications cover what customers order most. Each carries a specific aperture and height recommendation you can act on, not a general suggestion.

Wire mesh fencing along a house and land boundary

House and land boundaries

A clear, open boundary that does not block light or airflow. We suggest 2.0 inch chain link or the 4×6 inch mesh, the best value per metre.

4x4 inch wire mesh around a cattle pen on a livestock farm

Cattle and buffalo pens

Cattle lean into a fence with real weight. Use the 4×4 inch aperture at 150 cm or taller, or 2.50 mm hinge joint whose knots flex under load and recover.

Wire mesh fencing around a goat and sheep pen

Goat and sheep pens

Goats climb well and push their heads through gaps. Use the 4×4 inch aperture, nothing wider, at a height of at least 120 to 150 cm.

Tight 2x4 inch wire mesh used as a dog fence

Dog runs

Small dogs slip through wide apertures. Use 2×4 inch mesh at 120 cm or taller, and bury the base 15 to 20 cm if the dog digs.

Tight wire mesh enclosing a poultry house

Poultry fencing

The 2×4 inch aperture keeps chicks and ducklings in and predators out. A height of 100 to 150 cm is enough for most sheds.

Wire mesh fencing around an orchard and farmland

Orchards, farms and plantations

Keeps animals out of crops across large areas. The 4×6 inch mesh in 50 metre rolls gives the best value per metre and reduces the number of joins.

How to install wire mesh fencing and size the materials

Installation in six steps

  1. 1

Measure and set out — measure the perimeter, peg every corner and run a string line.

  2. 2

Set corner and brace posts — corners carry all the tension, so set them deep in concrete with a diagonal brace.

  3. 3

Set line posts — space them evenly, typically 2.5 to 3 metres apart.

  4. 4

Roll out the mesh — unroll along the post line and keep the horizontal wires parallel to the ground.

  5. 5

Tension and fix — pull evenly from corner to corner across the whole sheet before tying off at every post.

  6. 6

Finish and inspect — trim the excess, turn in the wire ends and check the base sits flush along the whole run.

Working out how many rolls and posts you need

  • Rolls = perimeter in metres ÷ roll length, rounded up, then add about 5 percent for overlap at the joins.
  • Posts = (perimeter ÷ chosen post spacing) + 1, then add corner and brace posts at every corner.
  • Worked example A 40 × 60 metre plot has a 200 metre perimeter. With 30 metre rolls and an allowance for overlap that is 7 rolls, and at 3 metre post spacing you need 68 posts, plus brace posts at the four corners.

Not sure what you need? Send us your dimensions and we will work it out for you at no charge.

Frequently asked questions

How does wire mesh fencing differ from welded panel fencing?

Wire mesh comes in rolls and is tensioned against posts on site, so it is more flexible and far cheaper over large areas. Welded panel fencing is a rigid prefabricated panel with a tidier finish, which suits building frontages and housing developments.

Which wire gauge should I choose?

The 2.50 mm wire is used for hinge joint mesh and for 2.0–2.5 inch chain link, and handles large animals and high-load applications. The 2.00 mm wire is used across the square mesh range and for 1.5 inch chain link, which is enough for most farm and boundary work.

Which aperture stops dogs getting through?

Use the 2×4 inch aperture, the tightest in the square mesh range, at a height of 120 cm or more. If the dog digs, bury the bottom of the fence 15 to 20 cm into the ground.

How long is one roll?

Hinge joint and square mesh are available in 30 metre and 50 metre rolls. Chain link comes in 10 metre rolls at every height.

What is the maximum height available?

The 4×6 inch mesh goes up to 250 cm (model SS 26), hinge joint up to 200 cm (model HJ 14-200-15) and chain link up to 200 cm.

What do the SS and HJ model codes mean?

The number after SS is the count of horizontal wires in that roll — SS 16 has 16 wires at 150 cm tall. An HJ code reads in three parts: HJ 14-200-15 means 14 horizontal wires, 200 cm tall, with vertical wires every 15 cm.

Which posts are needed, and what do they cost?

We recommend the Y-Post, designed specifically for tensioning wire mesh. It comes EDP-coated from 1.67 to 3.00 m at 210 to 400 baht per post, and hot dip galvanised from 2.0 to 3.2 m at 330 to 520 baht per post.

Do you install, and how is it priced?

We have installation teams. Installation is quoted separately from materials and depends on distance, ground conditions and fence height. Send us your site dimensions on LINE or call for a quotation.

Do you deliver upcountry?

We deliver nationwide. Some grades ship as compact coils to save space in transit. Delivery is charged by destination and roll quantity.

What certifications does the product hold?

MIT (Made in Thailand) certifying local manufacture, ISO 9001 for the quality management system, and Green Industry for reducing environmental impact across the production process.
